Marissa Birmingham

Marissa Birmingham is a junior studying Cognitive Science with a minor in Mathematics. In 2022, she received an IBACS undergraduate grant to fund her honors thesis project, which studies the way autistic people use verbal communication, facial expressions, and gestures as modes of response in conversation. In the future, she hopes to receive her PhD in Clinical Psychology. In her free time, she likes rock climbing, yoga, and listening to all sorts of music.

Karina Patel

Karina Patel

Karina is an undergraduate Physiology and Neurobiology and Linguistics/Philosophy double major who has a particular interest in brain imaging and the biological and physiological foundations of neurodevelopmental disorders, especially autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Pursuing an MD, she works with patients at a group home focused on rehabilitating their mental health with many of them diagnosed with ASD, ADHD, and other psychiatric disorders. On the side, she loves to dance, play games (strategy, card, or The Legend of Zelda), and psychoanalyze the latest movies.

Alexis Trojahn

Alexis Trojahn

Alexis is an undergraduate dual degreeing in Psychological Sciences and Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. She has research interests in the neurodevelopment of executive functioning and adaptive skills in Autism Spectrum Disorders. In the future she hopes to pursue a PsyD in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in children and adolescents studying the treatment and outcomes of Autism using clinical interventions. In her free time, she enjoys reading and running.

Olivia Kapustka

Olivia Kapustka is an undergraduate Allied Health Major with a minor in Molecular and Cell Biology. Her research interests include the neurological changes in neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases, specifically how language is impaired and how it differs from a normally developed brain. In her free time she is a part of HuskyTHON, a student-run organization at UConn which raises money year round for Connecticut Childrens!

Alyssa Daniels

Alyssa Daniels

Alyssa is an undergraduate Physiology and Neurobiology major with a minor in the Psychological Sciences. Alyssa’s research interests include the intersection between autism spectrum disorders, alexithymia, and eating pathology. She is a UConn BOLD scholar and completed research on ASD and ED in the summer of 2022. Outside of her work, Alyssa also enjoys scary movies, crocheting, and swimming at the Rec Center.

Talia is a senior undergraduate student studying Allied Health Sciences. Her research interests include the presence of intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) in medicine and how sensory symptoms in Autism can be improved through environmental modifications. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, kayaking, gardening, and reading.
